Good Samaritan's Pictures Lead to Burglary Arrest

On May 18, 2018, at about 11:50am, an auto burglary occurred on the 2500 block of Ridge Road. A community member who was watching from nearby, photographed the incident with her cellphone camera and provided the pictures to Berkeley Police Property Crimes Detectives.  As a result of the good Samaritans efforts, a suspect (Jamal Rudledge 22, of Richmond) was developed in the case.

On May 23, 2018 at 7:00am, Berkeley Police Detectives served a search warrant on the 600 block of South 49th Street in Richmond.  During the subsequent search, detectives found a credit card embosser, credit card encoder, laptop computer, blank credit cards, and the personal identity information of at least one prior identity theft victim.  Rudledge was then arrested and booked into the City of Berkeley Jail.

On May 25, 2018, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged Rudledge with burglary, possession of burglary tools, commission of a felony while released on bail or recognizance, and the unauthorized use of personal identifying information of another person.
The Berkeley Police Department is grateful for the ongoing assistance provided by our engaged community.
