The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

May 22nd

1040 Hours: Officers responded to a trespassing call on the 6700 block of George Avenue. A 37-year-old transient male was contacted and arrested for trespassing and subsequently booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1234 Hours: Officer Losier investigated an auto burglary on the 35200 block of Newark Boulevard. The loss is a backpack.

1909 Hours: Office Palacio investigated an auto burglary at NewPark Mall. The loss is a purse containing glasses and medication.

2049 Hours: Officers responded to Sears, NewPark Mall for a theft in progress. The Officers were unable to locate the suspects. While still on scene a second theft occurred and Officer Hunter located and stopped the suspect vehicle. The driver, a 32-year-old Oakland male was arrested for grand theft. The passenger in the vehicle, a 30-year-old Hayward female was arrested for obstructing a Police Officer. Both suspects were booked into the Fremont Jail. The stolen merchandise was returned to Sears.

0159 Hours: Officer Hunter is responded to a disturbance on the 6500 block of Overlake Place. A 46-year-old Newark woman was contacted and arrested for public intoxication. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.
