Neighborhood to the Rescue!!

On 5/23/18 at approximately 9:30 pm, a victim in the 4400 Block of Lubbock Dr. noticed a male subject rummaging through her car, placing property into a backpack. The victim screamed and the neighborhood came to the rescue. The victim, as well as other residents, chased the suspect while SVPD units were on the way. Upon arrival, SVPD officers detained the suspect. During the investigation one of the neighbors stated that he had contacted the suspect one day prior, near his truck. Although he couldn't prove it, he suspected him of stealing his power tools from his truck earlier in the week. The suspect was identified as Frankie Diaz (5/24/91). Diaz was currently on probation with search terms. Officers took Diaz back to his house on Jacinto Ave. and conducted a probation search. During the search, most of the neighbor's power tools were recovered. Diaz was placed under arrest for 496 PC, possession of stolen property and 484 PC, petty theft.
We remind citizens to lock their vehicles to make it more difficult to become a victim of theft. And as in this case, be a good neighbor. If you see something suspicious, call the Police Department.
