The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

May 18th

0703 Hours: Officer Fredstrom investigated a minor injury vehicle collision near Chelsea Drive at Edgewater Drive. The injured party was treated at the scene.

1019 Hours: Officer Hunter investigated a hit and run accident on Thornton Avenue. The investigation is ongoing.

1201 Hours: Officer Wallace responded to Sears, NewPark Mall for a shoplifter in custody. The suspect, a 56-year-old Oakland male was arrested for petty theft, possession of a controlled substance and violating the terms of his probation. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1355 Hours: Officers responded to a solo vehicle complaint of pain accident on Central Court. The injured party was treated at the scene.

1421 Hours: Officer Herbert responded to the Home Depot, 5401 Thornton Avenue for a report of a grab & run theft. The loss was miscellaneous power saws.

1705 Hours: Officer Khairy investigated a residential burglary on the 5400 block of Saint Mark Avenue. Entry was through an open window. The loss is money and jewelry.

May 19th

1141 Hours: Officer Mapes contacted and arrested a 57-year-old transient male for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia on the 6200 block of Jarvis Avenue. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1528 Hours: Officer Khairy contacted and arrested a 59-year-old Redwood City male for possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop on the 35400 block of Newark Boulevard. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

2058 Hours: Officer Rivera investigated a battery between two patrons at John’s Incredible Pizza, 440 NewPark Mall. The suspect fled prior to police arrival.

May 20th

0634 Hours: Officer Damewood contacted and arrested a 29-year-old Union City female for her outstanding warrant at the EZ8 Motel, 5555 Cedar Court. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

1047 Hours: Officer Jackman contacted and arrested a 54-year-old transient male for possession of drug paraphernalia at the homeless encampment to the rear of Dumbarton Court. The suspect was issued a citation and released at the scene.

1919 Hours: Officer San Pedro was working the Punjabi Festival at the Newark Junior High School, 6201 Lafayette Avenue when he observed an altercation between of group of intoxicated males. One of the subjects, a 27-year-old Newark male refused to comply with Officer San Pedro’s commands and was arrested for obstructing a Police Officer. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

1920 Hours: Officer Slavazza investigated an auto burglary at NewPark Mall. The loss is clothing.
