Aviation Division Air Rescue 07 crew conducts a hoist rescue in Lake Arrowhead for the victim of a rattlesnake bite

DATE/TIME: Saturday, May 19th, 2018 - 3:00 p.m.

INCIDENT: Hoist Rescue

LOCATION: Fisherman’s Campground, Lake Arrowhead

VICTIM: Andrew Basile, 46 years old, resident of Running Springs

SUMMARY:
On May 19, 2018, Andrew Basile was hiking the Fisherman’s Campground area with his family. While walking near their campsite, Basile stepped on a rattlesnake. He attempted to get away from the snake to avoid being bit, but was unable to. Family immediately called 911 and requested assistance.

Medical personnel were dispatched, along with Sheriff’s Air Rescue 07 since the area is remote and in steep mountain terrain. The crew of Air Rescue 07 arrived and determined a hoist rescue would be required due to the location and injuries. Basile was hoisted into the helicopter and flown to a nearby trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries.
