Safety Message to San Marino business owners:
 

During the past two weeks, the San Marino Police Department is currently investigating three reports of night-time burglaries to local businesses.  On all three burglaries, the suspect(s) shattered the front glass door and tampered with the cash drawers where cash was kept.

We would like to remind all our business owners to be diligent in preventing these burglaries.  Here are some suggestions to avoid being a target:

• Set your alarms.  Post warnings in clear view that the business is equipped with an alarm
• Test and maintain your video surveillance system.
• Minimize valuables left at your business.
• Do not leave currency in the register.  Leave the empty cash drawer open and visible.
• Proper lighting eliminates shadows, which burglars use for cover. Light up all points of entry, including those on the roof. Leave lights on inside just as you would do at home.
• Install lighting at the front and back in addition to any side doors of your business.
• Safes – Limit the amount of cash you have on hand after hours. If you must have cash or other valuables, keep them in a safe anchored to the floor.  Limit the storage of firearms and weapons.
