Flood Warning until 02:15PM

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Flood Warning for... Central Henderson County in western North Carolina...

* Until 330 PM EDT Wednesday.

* At 929 AM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated 2-3 inches of rain have fallen in the past 6 hours in a confined area along the Mud Creek basin. This excess runoff is impacting the Hendersonville vicinity in the usual locations including the intersection of S. Church St. and S. Main St. near Gateway Park.

* Additional rainfall of up to an inch is likely over the next hour before rainfall tapers off for the remainder of the morning. This should allow area streams to crest and begin recession. Rain will redevelop later today and may exacerbate ongoing flooding or cause new flooding to occur.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Hendersonville, Fletcher, Flat Rock, Etowah, Mountain Home, Laurel Park, Valley Hill, Horse Shoe, Tuxedo and Edneyville.

* The following streamgauge is rising rapidly and may approach Minor Flood Stage: .Mud Creek at Erkwood Dr. 1 S Hendersonville, .Current Stage. 8.26 ft and rising rapidly. .Action Stage. 6.50 ft .Minor Flood Stage. 8.50 ft .Impacts: At 8.50 feet, Minor Flood Stage. Mud Creek reaches the bottom of the beams at the S. Grove St. bridge. Floodwaters have begun inundating farmland and other undeveloped areas between S. King St. and Chadwick Ave. Mud Creek is also spilling into the floodplain near Erkwood Dr., flooding farmland. Backwater effects along Wash Creek are causing floodwaters to reach the access road to the shopping plaza just south of Gateway Park at the intersection of S. Church St. and S. Main St.

* Some locations that will experience flooding include... Hendersonville, Flat Rock, Mountain Home, Laurel Park, Valley Hill, Horse Shoe, Crab Creek, East Flat Rock, Etowah and Dupont State Forest.

* AFFECTED AREAS: HENDERSON

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, highways, and underpasses. Addditionally, country roads and farmlands along the banks of creeks, streams, and other low-lying areas are subject to flooding. Only a few inches of rapidly flowing water can carry away your vehicle. It is not worth the risk. Please TURN AROUND, DON`T DROWN. When it is safe to do so, please report flood waters or landslides flowing over roads or threatening property to the National Weather Service by calling toll free, 1, 800, 2 6 7, 8 1 0 1, by posting on our Facebook page, or via Twitter using hashtag NWSGSP. Your message should describe the event and the specific location where it occurred, including roadways, nearby cross streets, stream names and other landmarks.
