Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 11 p.m., primary threat - strong wind gusts of 40-60 miles per hour
The North Brunswick Office of Emergency Management advises residents that a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued until 11 p.m. tonight. The timing of the severe storms will be between 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the primary threat being strong, potentially damaging, wind gusts of 40 to 60 miles per hour, and an isolated risk for small hail and only a minimal risk for a tornado. Numerous cloud to ground lightning strikes are expected with the line of storms.
The risk for strong wind gusts with the line is somewhat higher than a typical severe weather threat of the area. Downed wires and trees, along with some power outages, are possible due to the threat of strong winds.
To report downed wires or power outages, call PSE&G’s Customer Service line at 1-800-436-PSEG. Please be sure to charge your cell phones and have flashlights available in the event of a power outage.
Storms could also produce downpours, so localized poor drainage/road flooding is also a concern during the latter half of the PM rush hour. Motorists should use caution this evening and be prepared for torrential downpours and potential flooding.
