Police Blotter May 8th to May 13th

Investigations Update:
On April 5th, two suspects entered Peets Coffee and stole two laptops from customers who were sitting near the rear door of the business. During the investigation, officers obtained video surveillance footage from the business and were able to identify one of the suspects from prior contacts. On May 3rd, ECPD detectives arrested a 17-year-old for the crime. The juvenile was booked at the ECPD and then transported to Juvenile Hall.

May 8th

Auto Burglary - 280 El Cerrito Plaza:
Between 1345 and 1400 hours, an unknown suspect broke the front passenger window of the victim’s vehicle and stole property.

Auto Burglary - 240 El Cerrito Plaza:
Between 1600 and 1700 hours, an unknown suspect broke the left rear passenger window of the victim’s vehicle and stole a backpack containing approximately $900 worth of electronics.

Driving with a Suspended License, Possession of Controlled Substance, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia- San Pablo Avenue/ Santa Cruz Avenue:
At 0108 hours, an officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested the driver, a 65-year-old male, for being in possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, and driving with a suspended license. The male was booked and released on a citation.

Located a Missing Person- Kearney Street/Eureka Avenue:
An officer conducted a pedestrian stop and located a missing 28-year-old female adult who was reported missing to the El Cerrito Police Department.

May 9th

Stolen Vehicle – Lexington Ave / Potrero Ave:
On 5/8/19 between 1130 and 2100 hours, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 2006 BMW.

Stolen Vehicle – Potrero Ave / Eastshore Blvd:
At 0516 hours, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 1995 Geo Prism.

Warrant – San Pablo Ave / Potrero Ave:
At 1615 hours, an officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested a 31-year-old woman from Richmond on a Contra Costa County warrant. She was booked at the ECPD and then released on a citation.

Auto Burglary – Macaroni Grill, 8000 El Cerrito Plaza:
An officer reports between 2040 and 2128 hours, an unknown suspect smashed out the front passenger window of the victim’s vehicle and stole a backpack.

May 10th

Failure to Yield – San Pablo Ave / Panama Ave:
At 0904 hours, an officer attempted a traffic stop on a white Chevy Malibu. The vehicle turned westbound on Panama Ave and then northbound on Carlson Blvd. The officer initiated a vehicle pursuit, and the Malibu entered eastbound Interstate 80. Speeds reached 82 MPH, and the pursuit was terminated prior to San Pablo Dam Rd. off ramp. The vehicle was last seen turning westbound on to San Pablo Dam Rd.

Warrant, Possess Controlled Substance – San Pablo Ave / Wall Ave:
At 1127 hours, an officer contacted a 38-year-old transient male for having an open container of alcohol. He was wanted on a $150,000 Richmond PD warrant and was subsequently arrested. He was found to be in possession of methamphetamine during a search incident to arrest. He was booked at the ECPD and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Public Intoxication- Safeway- 11450 San Pablo Avenue:
At 1708 hours, officers were dispatched to Safeway regarding a report of an unwanted subject. Officers arrived on scene and contacted a subject, a 37-year-old male from Richmond, who was extremely intoxicated, verbally aggressive, and made threats to resist officers. The subject was arrested and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Attempted Burglary-Residential-1200 Block of Liberty Street:
Officers responded to a report of an attempted burglary that occurred earlier in the day. At approximately 1630 hours, the victim heard a sound coming from the kitchen window. When the victim went to investigate, the victim saw an unknown female subject attempting to gain entry into the residence through an open window. The victim made it known that someone was home which caused the subject to flee the scene.

May 11th

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Yolo Ave. / El Dorado St.
At approximately 1047 hours, an El Cerrito police officer located a gray 2014 Kia Optima, which was reported stolen to the Hercules PD on May 4th. The vehicle was released to the registered owner.

Trespassing/Possession of a Controlled Substance – 11965 San Pablo Ave
At 1109 hours, an El Cerrito police officer noticed a bike propped up against the trash enclosure around the old Taco Bell (abandoned building). The officer located three subjects inside, including a 63-year-old transient male. The male was found in possession of ammunition in his pocket, an inoperable Glock 40 caliber handgun, and the tube for an extended high capacity magazine. He was also in possession of methamphetamine. The male was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Shoplifting – CVS 670 EC Plaza:
At approximately 1234 hours, El Cerrito police officers responded to the report of a shoplifter at CVS. A 64-year-old male from Oakland was observed concealing items into his clothing and then left without paying. The male was placed under citizen’s arrest, and field cited ($124 loss.)

Stolen Vehicle – 2000 block of Harper Street:
At 2025 hours, an officer reported the theft of the victim’s white 2008 Pontiac Vibe sometime between May 9th at 1800 hours and May 11th at 2025 hours.

DUI – San Pablo Avenue / Cutting Boulevard:
At 2253 hours, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and contacted a 43-year-old Richmond man. The man was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and was subsequently arrested. The man was later released from the El Cerrito PD station with a citation.

Robbery (Strong-arm) – BART path / Gladys Avenue:
At 2230 hours, the victim was walking south on the BART path in the area of Gladys Avenue when he was attacked by two individuals. The victim was punched several times in the face and head before the suspects took the victim’s backpack which contained a laptop and other property.

May 12th

Robbery – See’s Candy, 160 EC Plaza:
At approx. 1233 hours, two suspects stole approx. $1000 worth of candy. One of the suspects kicked an employee who attempted to intervene. The suspects fled the scene in a blue vehicle.

May 13th

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – El Dorado St / San Mateo Street:
At 0719 hours, an officer recovered a stolen 2007 Chevrolet Express van which had been reported stolen to the San Rafael Police Department.

Shoplifting – Bed, Bath & Beyond, 6050 El Cerrito Plaza:
At 1027 hours, two suspects pushed a shopping cart loaded with merchandise out of the store without paying. The pair entered a burgundy colored Chevrolet sedan and fled.

Domestic Violence – 6400 block of Portola Drive:
At 1050 hours, officers were dispatched to a report of a disturbance between a husband and wife. Officers learned that during the previous night the male had punched and kicked the female during an augment. The male, a 28-year-old El Cerrito resident, was arrested and later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Grand Theft – Walgreens, 11565 San Pablo Ave:
At 1518 hours, a suspect entered the business, laid down on the ground next to a perfume display, and removed over $1000 worth of merchandise. As the suspect then fled the store, he crashed into the front door breaking the door.

DUI – 700 block of Liberty Street:
At 1548 hours, an ECPD officer contacted a 55-year- old El Cerrito woman who was found to be driving under the influence. The woman was arrested and later released with a citation from the station.

Stolen Vehicle Recovery, Warrant Arrest –Key Boulevard / Knott Avenue:
At 2152 hours, an officer located a stolen 1988 Toyota pick-up parked against the curb unoccupied. As the officer filled out the required paperwork to tow the vehicle away, two suspects entered the vehicle and began to drive off. The driver, a 33-year-old man from Richmond, was arrested for being in possession of the stolen vehicle. His passenger, a 44-year-old Bay Point woman, was also arrested when she was found to have a warrant for her arrest. The pair was later transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
