Standoff With Assault Suspect Ends in Arrest

On May 14, 2018, at about 04:26 AM officers with the Anderson Police Department responded to the area of Redbud Ln. and Jason Ct. for a report of an assault that had just occurred.

The reporting party indicated that Michael Shayne Terry, age 45, of Anderson, arrived at the location and forced entry through the front door of the victims residence.

Terry went to the victims bedroom and confronted them, stating he was going to kill them. Terry then began striking both victims with a baseball bat, causing minor injuries to both parties.

Terry fled the scene prior to officers arrival.

At about 07:00 AM Officers located Terry's vehicle in the 1500 block of Spruce St. at an apartment complex. Officer received information that Terry lived at the location in one of the apartments.

Officers attempted to contact Terry at the front door of his residence, however received no response. Officers attempted to hail Terry via a patrol vehicle's PA and called him multiple times on his cell phone, however he would not communicate with the officers.

Officers secured the scene and obtained a search warrant for Terry's residence. Due to the close proximity of the location to Anderson Heights Elementary School the school was placed on lock down to ensure the safety of the students.

Officers made additional announcements to Terry that they had a search warrant and that if he didn't surrender K-9 Aero would be sent in to apprehend him. Terry continued to ignore the Officers commands.

Officers breached the front door and began to make entry into the apartment. Once the door was open they found Terry standing behind the door attempting to keep the lock secured. Terry immediately surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.

Terry was transported and booked into the Shasta County Jail on the following charges: Assault with a deadly weapon, assault likely to cause great bodily injury, burglary, criminal threats, battery domestic violence.

The bat Terry used in the assault was located at the residence.
