2 WANTED THIEVES ARRESTED DURING TRAFFIC STOP

On Tuesday, May 8th, 2018 at approximately 7:45pm an Anderson Police Department Officer was on routine patrol near Walmart in Anderson. The Officer observed a white Lexus sedan leaving the area of Walmart and driving erratically.

The Officer attempted to catch up to the Lexus but was delayed by vehicle traffic. The Officer continued to follow the Lexus and ultimately caught up to it northbound I-5 near Knighton Road and conducted a traffic stop for expired registration.

The Lexus eventually yielded in the parking lot of the TA truck stop. The front passenger, later identified as Daric Boughton, age 40, of Anderson, immediately ran from the vehicle on foot. The driver, identified as Teresa Zuno, age 35, of Shingletown, complied with the Officer and remained in the vehicle.

A records check of Zuno revealed she had an active felony arrest warrant for violation of Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) which stemmed from a charge of 11351 HS (possession of illegal narcotics for sales).

Additional APD Officers responded to the scene to assist in the search for Boughton. Residents along Churn Creek Road and Pacheco School Road reported that Boughton was running eastbound through the Pacheco school field. An Officer on Pacheco School Road spotted Boughton ducking up and down in waist high grass. Boughton may have been more successful in eluding capture if had he not been wearing a bright teal tank top.

The Officer and his partner, K9 Chance, approached Boughton and ordered him to surrender. Ironically, Boughton responded with, ā€œIā€™m not dumb!ā€ as he laid down in the grass.

Holding true to his statement, Boughton surrendered to K9 Chance and was taken into custody without further incident. A records check of Boughton revealed he was on Shasta County probation for a charge of 459 PC (burglary). Additionally, Boughton had 3 active felony warrants and 2 active misdemeanor warrants for his arrest for violations of his probation terms, drug charges, and burglary.

A search of the Lexus revealed an HP computer with a security device next to it that had been cut. It was confirmed on scene that the suspect(s) had just stolen the computer from Walmart. The computer had a dollar value of approximately $700.

Zuno and Boughton were transported to the Shasta County Jail where they were booked on their warrants and the vehicle was impounded. Additional charges will be filed against the suspects regarding the stolen property and contraband located in the vehicle as well as resisting arrest on Boughton.
