Community Safety Operation

On May 6, 2018, local law enforcement agencies conducted a Community Safety Operation in southern San Luis Obispo County. The Community Safety Operation focused on individuals supervised by the Probation Department and State Parole.

The San Luis Obispo County Probation Department assisted by the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office, teamed with local law enforcement agencies to conduct compliance contacts in the cities of Arroyo Grande, Grover Beach, Pismo Beach and the unincorporated areas of Oceano and Nipomo.

Local law enforcement agencies included the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Investigators Office, Arroyo Grande Police Department, San Luis Obispo Police Department, Grover Beach Police Department, Pismo Beach Police Department, Santa Barbara County Probation Department, Santa Maria Police Department, Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Office, California Department of Corrections Team 9, State Parole, and K-9 Units from Atascadero State Hospital. The support of these agencies was critical to the success of the operation.

The community safety operation focused on subjects who presented a higher risk to reoffend based on past criminal behavior, risk assessment, subjects documented as gang members or gang associates, domestic violence offenders, subjects with a history of narcotics sales, repeat DUI offenders, subjects with a history of burglary and other theft-related cases, or active warrants.

During the operation, teams contacted subjects at 24 residences, conducted probation and parole searches and arrested 5 subjects for violations of probation or parole. An additional 3 subjects were arrested for outstanding warrants. Officers seized narcotics, prescription pills and drug paraphernalia during the compliance searches.

All arrestees were transported to the San Luis Obispo County Jail for booking into custody.
