BPD Makes Multiple Arrests in Weekend Robberies

On May 6, 2018 at 3:30pm, BPD responded to the 2500 block Telegraph Avenue for a robbery which was reported from a deli.  The according to the victim, the suspect entered the business and stole a can of soda and punched an employee in the face when he was confronted.  The suspect was stopped by BPD at Telegraph Avenue and Haste Street.

Arrested for robbery and resisting arrest was Kenyatta Massey 48, Berkeley homeless.

At approximately 7:11pm that same day, the victim was sitting at the bus top in front of the Bank of America at 2129 Shattuck Avenue, when he was approached by two suspects.  One of them asked him about his phone and then they suddenly attacked him and took his computer bag and phone.  A good Samaritan tried to intervene and he was punched in the face by one of the suspects.  The good Samaritan’s girlfriend pulled pepper spray from her purse and used it against the man who had just punched her boyfriend.

The two suspects fled ran westbound on Center Street while the dynamic duo of good Samaritans chased after them. When Berkeley Police arrived on the 2000 block of Center Street the male good Samaritan pointed at the suspect he was chasing and indicated that he was one of the people responsible for the robbery.  That suspect was later identified as Stanley Trotter 28, Berkeley homeless.  The second as yet unidentified suspect fled northbound through Arts Passage on Center Street and remains at large.  Trotter was arrested and booked into the City of Berkeley Jail for robbery, giving false identification to the Police and a warrant.

Robbery Detectives are asking for the community’s assistance in identifying the second suspect.  If you have any information regarding this case you are asked to call the Robbery Detail at (510)981-5742.
At 7:32pm (later that same evening), the male victim reported having met a female on social media website.  They agreed to meet a short while later on the 1900 block of Haste Street. When the victim arrived he was confronted by two men.  The victim ran and was tackled by one of the suspects.  The suspect physically assaulted the victim until he gave him his property.  The victim got up and ran away and was chased by the second suspect.  The victim managed to escape.

Officers responded and saw one of the suspects running from the scene.  The suspect (later identified as Christian Wallace 22, of Berkeley) was apprehended on the 1900 block of Dwight Way. While officers were speaking with the victim, Berkeley Police Dispatch received a call of a suspicious person hiding in a silver car in a parking lot on the 1900 block of Haste Street.  They found the second suspect (identified as Darrell Finney 27, of Berkeley) hiding in a parked car.  Both Finney and Wallace were found in possession of some of the victim’s property.
