The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

May 3rd

1140 Hours: Officer Wang responded to Macy’s, NewPark Mall for two shoplifters in custody. A 21-year-old Nebraska male and an 18-year-old San Jose female were arrested for shoplifting. Further investigation by Officer Wang revealed that the car the suspects were driving was reported stolen out of San Jose, adding an additional charge of possession of a stolen vehicle. Both suspects were booked into the Fremont Jail.

1532 Hours: Officer Fredstrom contacted and arrested a 26-year-old Newark male for his outstanding warrant on the 7100 block of Calis Place. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

1919 Hours: Officer Musantry investigated a residential burglary on the 37200 block of Birch Street. The loss is jewelry.

2029 Hours: Officer Piquette investigated the theft of a Toyota Celica on the 37400 block of Cherry Street. The vehicle was recovered in Fremont at 0514 Hours.

May 4th

0808 Hours: Officer Wallace contacted and arrested a 37-year-old transient male for his outstanding warrant on the 37300 block of Cherry Street. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

2203 Hours: Officer Rivera investigated an auto burglary on the 6200 block of Jarvis Avenue. The loss is unknown at this time.

2232 Hours: Officer Taylor investigated an auto burglary on the 6300 block of Jarvis Avenue. The loss is a credit card and cash.

2302 Hours: Officer Rivera investigated an auto burglary on the 35200 block of Newark Boulevard. The loss is a laptop computer and cell phone.

0008 Hours: Officer Piquette investigated a prowling incident on the 39900 block of Parada Street. No suspect was located.

0051 Hours: Officer Piquette contacted and arrested a 33-year-old Newark male for driving under the influence on Moores Avenue at Larkspur Street.

May 5th

0713 Hours: Officer D. Johnson contacted and arrested a 31-year-old Newark male for his outstanding warrant on the 5700 block of Thornton Avenue. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

0921 Hours: Officer D. Johnson and Officer Jackman contacted and arrested a 39-year-old transient male for his outstanding warrant on Newark Boulevard at Hwy. 84. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

1034 Hours: Officer Slavazza contacted and arrested a 63-year-old Newark male for false vehicle registration on Stevenson Boulevard at Cedar Boulevard. The suspect was issued a citation and released. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

2211 Hours: Officer Herbert investigated an auto burglary at Johns Incredible Pizza, NewPark Mall. The loss is prescription medicine.

2328 Hours: Officer Taylor investigated an auto burglary at Mehran, 5774 Mowry School Road. The loss is clothing.

0028 Hours: Officer Musantry investigated a strong arm robbery at Bob’s Discount Liquors located at 7000 Jarvis Avenue. The investigation is ongoing.

0229 Hours: Officer Rivera contacted and arrested a 28-year-old female for driving under the influence during a traffic stop on the 36000 block of Ruschin Drive. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

May 6th

0904 Hours: Officer Jackman and Officer D. Johnson contacted and arrested a 56-year-old Newark male for possession of drug paraphernalia during a probation search on the 5800 block of Ravenwood Avenue. The suspect was issued a citation and released at the scene.

1109 Hours: Officer Slavazza contacted and arrested a 32-year-old Newark male for his outstanding warrant while conducting a traffic stop on the 36800 block of Cedar Boulevard. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

1730 Hours: Officer Rivera and Officer Musantry responded to Safeway, 5877 Jarvis Avenue regarding a petty theft with two suspects in custody. A 50-year-old male and a 49-year-old male, both transient were arrested and booked into the Santa Rita Jail. In a separate incident, a 44-year-old Oakland male was contacted and arrested for robbery and an outstanding warrant. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.
