DETAILS:  Patrol Units were detailed to the 14000 Building of Goodrow Court (The Mews Apartments) on an activated fire alarm.  While enroute, dispatch advised of receiving additional calls advising of flames and smoke.  Upon Patrol’s arrival, flames and smoke were visible from the porch area of a third floor apartment.  While some residents had already vacated the building due to the fire, Patrol quickly worked to evacuate the remainder of the apartment building.  Ptl. Abade and Ptl. Buchanan went to the apartment of the suspected fire source.  The residents of the apartment were still inside of their apartment and unaware of the situation.  The residents, including a (5) day old infant exited the building and escorted to Ptl. Buchanan’s patrol vehicle where they sat with their infant child.  Patrol Units continued to ensure the building was entirely evacuated.  The fire was contained to the third story balcony/roof and into the master bedroom of the originating apartment.  The above listed fire companies who worked to extinguish the flames while PSE&G responded to the scene and disconnected the gas to the building.

No injuries were reported or observed.  The residents of the apartment where the fire originated declined any medical treatment.  Ptl. Buchanan was able to obtain some items from their apartment including baby formula.  At 0108 Hours, Patrol Units began to allow residents back into their apartments.  However, (2) apartments were uninhabitable including the one where the fire originated and another that sustained water damage.  Both of the affected families were able to obtain other living arrangements for the time being.  Det. J. Jones is continuing the investigation although the fire not considered to be suspicious at this time.
