Safety To and From School Continues to be a Priority

Safety to and From School Continues to be a Priority

In January, Officer Pilger visited Buchser Middle School (1/11/18) and Cabrillo Middle School (1/26/18) to praise teens arriving by scooter, skateboard or bicycle and wearing a helmet. Those middle school students without a helmet were given the opportunity to pick one based on fit, style and color thanks to a grant the Santa Clara Police Department received from the California Office of Traffic Safety.

Last week, Officers Pilger, Alford and Mead returned to Buchser Middle School to check-in. The officer observed approximately 30 bicyclists; three kids were not wearing helmets. Everyone wearing a helmet was awarded front (white) and rear (red) lights for their bicycle. Of those not wearing a helmet, one student did not own one and was given the opportunity to select a helmet. The others were given a firm warning about the California law that requires riders under age 18 to wear a helmet.

Watch out Cabrillo Middle School - the officers are headed your way next!
