Incident Summary:
On Monday April 23, 2018 at approximately 5:29 PM, Petaluma Police Dispatch received a call from a citizen who witnessed a vehicle burglary. The suspect was seen exiting the vehicle and walking to a nearby store. Multiple officers arrived on scene and located Austin Hazen who matched the suspect description. Hazen initially provided a false name to the officers. Hazen had cut the sleeves off his shirt and pants in an apparent attempt to disguise himself. Hazen was later determined to have multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest. The warrants were for theft related offenses including possession of a stolen vehicle.
Stephan Salazar was contacted in the area and later determined to be associated with Hazen. Salazar was in possession of drug paraphernalia and Xanex pills which were not prescribed to him. An inventory of his property revealed a fraudulent $100 bill and a cashier’s check in someone else’s name. It was determined the cashier’s check was stolen in a vehicle burglary in Santa Rosa on 4/04/2018.
Hazen and Salazar were transported to the Petaluma Police Department for pre-booking. Based on the suspects past history, officers returned to the shopping center in an attempt to locate any possible stolen vehicles. Officers located a stolen Saturn Vue in the parking lot. The Saturn was stolen out of Santa Rosa on 4/21/2018. Officers noticed a suspicious subject walking in the area. Cory Morrow was contacted and admitted to knowing Hazen and Salazar. A search of his person revealed heroin, drug paraphernalia, and a concealed dagger. The stolen vehicle is being processed for evidence.
Hazen was charged with burglary, false identification to peace officers, and two warrants. Salazar was charged with forgery, possession of stolen property, possession of controlled substance without a prescription, and drug paraphernalia. Morrow was charged with possession of a controlled substance, drug paraphernalia, and a concealed dagger. All three subjects were transported to the Sonoma County Jail for booking.
