National Police Week
A message from the Chief: National Police Week ceremony
In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed the first proclamation recognizing May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as National Police Week, in honor of officers who have fallen in the line of duty.
During 2017, 135 officers were killed in the line of duty nationwide, which includes 14 from Texas. On Monday May 14th 2018 at 4:00pm the Sachse Police Department will be conducting a flag lowering ceremony at the Public Safety Building to honor those officers lost in the line of duty during 2017. I invite our citizens to attend this brief but meaningful ceremony as part of your police department’s commemoration of National Police Week.
