This press release is to update information regarding the traffic collision which occurred on Lakeville Hwy. On April 24, 2018 at 7:15am resulting in the death of a 67 year old female.

The 67 year old female who was pronounced deceased at the scene has been identified as Susan Williams from Bodega Bay. The driver of the Chevrolet Silverado that drove over solid double yellow lines into oncoming traffic has been identified as Javier Rodriguez Lopez a 19 year old male from Pittsburg, Ca. The passenger in his pickup has been identified as the drivers father 50 year old Jguadalupe Rodriguezsolis also from Pittsburg, Ca. A records check revealed the driver Javier Rodriguez Lopez does not have a driver’s license. His father who was the passenger in the Silverado does have a valid California License.

Petaluma Police Department Traffic Officers spoke with Rodrigues Lopez in the emergency room shortly after the collision to confirm his driving status and learn what may have caused him to drive over the solid double yellow lines. Rodrigues Lopez told investigators he had taken the California drivers test in 2017 however did not pass the test.

When asked why he crossed over the solid double yellow lines he said he could not remember anything before the collision. He told investigators he did not go to bed until 1 am and did not get much sleep and was potentially tired.

There was nothing to indicate alcohol or drugs played a part in the collision. Investigators asked Rodrigues Lopez if he had been using his cell phone while driving and he said he had not. Traffic investigators recovered his cell phone from the wrecked Silverado and will confirm the phone was not in use at the time of the collision. It will not be determined until the invetsigation is completed what charges Rodriguez Lopez could face.

Rodriguez Lopez were admitted to a local hospital on Tuesday with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Honda Accord who was transported to a local hospital was treated and released with facial and head lacerations.

It was later learned there was an additional car involved in the collision bringing the total number of cars involved to 7. The last car identified only sustained minor damage. This collision is still under investigation, anyone with information that has not been reported to the Petaluma Police Department is asked to call Officer Mario Giomi at 707-776-3722.
