FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Charges Filed in Multiple Murder in Cities of Covina and Azusa

On April 11, 2018 at 2:45PM, Covina Police officers responded to an apartment in the 1300 block of West San Bernardino Road in the City of Covina regarding a call of a 42 year old woman who had been shot and killed.  Several witnesses and family members led Covina Police detectives to Miguel Prieto, the victim’s ex-husband and possible suspect.  With the assistance of task force detectives from the cities of Covina and Azusa Police Departments, and the Taskforce for Regional Auto Theft Prevention (TRAP), Prieto was located in his vehicle, with a revolver in a Long Beach parking lot a few hours after the murder.

Covina Police detectives continued their investigation and discovered Prieto was possibly connected to a murder investigation which occurred on February 9, 2018 at approximately 9:52PM, in the 1500 block of West McKenley Avenue in the City of Azusa.  Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau assisted Azusa Police Department with the investigation involving a male and female adult who were shot at while inside a vehicle.  The male survived the shooting and the female later died from her wounds.

Based on these two incidents, on April 19th the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder against Miguel Prieto.  He is currently being held without bail at the Los Angeles County Men’s Jail.
