A fatal crash forced the closure of Route 1 northbound for six hours Tuesday morning. South Brunswick Police responded at 4:45am to Route 1 northbound between Henderson Road and Blackhorse Lane for a pedestrian struck. The male victim was pronounced deceased at the scene at 5:06am. The victim was in a travel lane when he was struck by two tractor trailers. The location of the crash was not near an intersection and there were no nearby crosswalks. Both drivers of the tractor trailers stayed on scene. Police are withholding releasing the victim’s name pending notification of next of kin.
Delays during the morning rush hour were extensive around the Township. There was over a three mile backup on Route 1 as police worked to clear the scene.
