Public Safety Director Bruce Painter is pleased to announce that the Burlington Township Police Department recently participated in the NJ Division of Highway Traffic Safety 2018 Distracted Driving Crackdown “U Drive, U Text, U Pay”.

Between the dates of April 1, 2018 and April 21, 2018, officers dedicated 120 hours of patrol time to this initiative on top of the normal departmental patrol shifts. The officers conducted several hundred motor vehicle stops, which resulted in two DWI arrests, one narcotics arrests, eight warrant arrests, and 453 motor vehicle summonses. The following is the breakdown of summonses issued:

82 cell phone summonses
8 speeding summonses
23 suspended driver summonses
2 reckless driving summonses
7 careless driving summonses
29 seat belt and child restraint summonses
302 other summonses

Director Painter credits all the men and women of the Burlington Township Police Department for making this initiative so successful and for making Burlington Township a safe community. Whereas the operational period for this initiative has ended, the Burlington Township Police Department remains committed to improving the safety of our roadways by aggressively enforcing distracted driving.
