Incident Summary

On April 22, 2018, at 1034 hours, officers were dispatched to multiple reports of a male subject loitering in the area of an entrance of a closed business in the 700 block of Baywood Drive.  The male subject was described as behaving oddly and appearing to be under the influence of drugs.  The subject fled on foot prior to the arrival of responding officers.

While officers responded to the scene the business owner independently arrived and notified dispatch that they had discovered the front door of their business open and loud music coming from inside.  The business owner reported they believed their business had been burglarized and there were potentially suspected still inside.

Additional officers checking the area located the suspicious subject initially reported in the area of the burglarized business.  The subject later identified as Justin Vandaveer was confrontational with officers.  As officers attempted to detain Vandaveer he began to actively fight the officers.  The officers were able to eventually take Vandaveer into custody.

Officers checked the business, determined it had been burglarized, and confirmed no suspects were remaining inside.  Numerous items in the business were found to have been vandalized and the business owner identified numerous items as being stolen.

Video surveillance was later reviewed and Vandaveer was captured making access through a third story balcony and burglarizing the business for an extended period of time.  A search of Vandaveer uncovered numerous items stolen from the business.

A records check of Vandaveer showed that he was on active Sonoma County probation for case in which he resisted arrest.  Vandaveer was arrested for violations of 459 PC, burglary, 148(a)(1) PC, resisting arrest, 496(a) PC, possession of stolen property, and 594(a)(1) PC, vandalism.  Vandaveer was transported to Sonoma County Jail and booked into custody for the above violations.
