Advisory

Two residential burglaries in two days. 1700 block of Hilliard Dr. and 700 block of Canterbury Road.

Community Alert 04/20/18

During the past two days, two residential burglaries were reported to the San Marino Police Department.  In both cases, there was no loss, and no injuries.

On 04/19/18 at approximately 0750 hours, a resident in the 1700 block of Hilliard Drive reported hearing unknown noises inside the home.  The resident went to investigate, and saw a suspect inside the home.  The suspect was scared off and ran out of a sliding glass door out of sight.  Officers arrived at within one minute but were not able to locate any suspects.  Investigation revealed an unknown suspect gained entry by shattering a rear sliding glass door.  Once inside, the suspect was confronted by the resident and fled through the same shattered sliding glass door.  This suspect was described as female, wearing a baseball cap, dark glasses, a black bandana, and unknown color pants and unknown color or type shirt.  (CR18-0339)

On 04/20/18 at approximately 1022 hours, the San Marino Police Department received an alarm activation from a residence in the 700 block of Canterbury Road.  Officers were dispatched and arrived within two minutes.  Upon checking residence, Officers located a shattered rear window and a forced rear door.  An interior and property search did not yield any suspects.  Through witness statements and surveillance video it was determined a light blue SUV or Minivan parked in front of the victim’s home.   Two suspects climbed the resident’s wall to gain access to the rear yard.  Once in the rear yard, the suspects gained entry into the home by shattering a glass window pane.  Once the suspects were inside the home, the alarm was eventually activated.  It appears the suspects were scared off by the alarm, forcing a rear door open to flee.  The suspects ran to the front of the home to the above vehicle, with one entering the front passenger seat, and the other entering on the driver’s side.  The vehicle drove away south on Canterbury Road out of sight.  Suspect 1 is described as male, wearing a green hooded sweatshirt with “CAL” on the front, dark colored pants, dark colored shoes, and white socks.   Suspect 2 is described as male, wearing a dark green hooded sweatshirt, dark colored pants, dark colored shoes, and white socks.  (CR18-0346)

In the second burglary, it appears the suspects fled the location due to the alarm being activated.  We encourage ALL residents to invest in a good alarm system that is monitored, AND diligently use the alarm, even when leaving for brief periods of time.  The alarm system likely saved this resident from incurring a loss.  Along with having a good, functioning alarm system, the San Marino Police Department recommends a good surveillance camera system.  Please do your own research to include asking friends, neighbors, and independent reviews of what types of cameras work best.

Both residential burglaries are under investigation by San Marino Detectives.  If you have any information that could be helpful, please contact Property Crimes Detective Naved Qureshi at 626-300-0728 or [email protected].
