Incident: Early Morning DUI Arrests

Location: 1510 E. Washington St (Quick Stop), 220 Lakeville St (SMART Station)
Suspect #1: Raul Martinez, 47 year old, Petaluma Resident
Suspect#2: Elizabeth Nunes, 27 year old, Petaluma Resident
Incident Summary:
On April 18, 2018, at approximately 7:30am, a concerned citizen reported they had observed a driver, later identified as Raul Martinez, mixing what they believed to be an alcoholic beverage while he was in his vehicle. The witnessed then followed the driver and reported Martinez was having difficulty keeping his vehicle within its traffic lane. The witness followed Martinez to a residence in Petaluma and relayed the information to police.
Traffic Motor Officer Frick arrived at the residence and located Martinez in his vehicle, which was still running. Martinez was asked to exit his vehicle, which he did. Officer Frick immediately detected objective signs of intoxication. Martinez was asked to perform Field Sobriety Tests, which he completed. Martinez was determined to have been operating his vehicle while intoxicated and was arrest. He later completed a breath test, which showed his blood alcohol content to be .25 and .27 (more than 3 times the legal limit). Martinez was booked at the Sonoma County Jail.
On April 19, 2018, at approximately 9:00am, Traffic Motor Officer Accornero stopped Elizabeth Nunes for a speeding violation. Upon contact Officer Accornero detected objective signs of intoxication. Nunes was asked to perform Field Sobriety Tests, which she completed. Nunes was determined to have been operating her vehicle while intoxicated and she was arrested. A preliminary alcohol screening test showed Nunes’ blood alcohol content to be .20 (more than double the legal limit). Nunes was booked at the Sonoma County Jail.
