Police Blotter April 1st thru April 15th

April 3rd
Stolen Vehicle – 11740 San Pablo Ave:
Between 4/2/18 at 2000 and 4/3/18 at 0730 hours, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 1997 Honda Odyssey van.

Possess Controlled Substance / Paraphernalia, Controlled Substance Sales – El Cerrito Plaza:
At 1150 hours, an officer on bike patrol investigated a suspicious vehicle and detained a 36-year-old female and a 42-year-old man from Richmond. During the contact, the female was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia while the man was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. A search of the vehicle yielded more methamphetamine, packaging supplies, and a scale. Both individuals were arrested, booked at the ECPD, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Battery – San Pablo Avenue and Moeser Lane:
At 1756 hours, an officer reports an unknown suspect approached the victim and kicked him in the abdomen. The suspect then fled the area prior to police arrival.

Vandalism – 400 block of Balra Dr:
At about 1945 hours, an officer reports an unknown subject broke the driver side wing window of the victim’s vehicle by unknown means.

Stolen Vehicle – Liberty St. and Key Blvd.
An officer reports the theft of a 1997 Honda Civic on April 3rd between 1000 and 2025 hours.

April 4th

Grand Theft – Bank of America, 10422 San Pablo Ave:
On 3/27/18, a 91-year-old victim who lives in the 700 block of Balra Dr. received a call from someone who claimed her grandson was in a collision and she needed to send $15,000 to cover medical and attorney fees. On 4/2/18, she went to Bank of America and deposited the $15,000 into an account specified by the suspect only to find out later she was a victim of a scam.

DUI, Driving with a Suspended License, Possession of Controlled Substance-11299 San Pablo Avenue:
At 2035 hours, an officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested the driver, a 27-year-old female, for driving under the influence of alcohol. A search of the female’s purse revealed she was in possession of a controlled substance. The female was booked at the ECPD and then released on a citation to a friend.

Warrant Arrest, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Paraphernalia-San Pablo Avenue and Carlson Boulevard:
At 0044 hours, an officer conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested a 36-year-old male for a warrant and being in possession of a controlled substance and paraphernalia. The male was booked and then taken to the Martinez Detention Facility for the warrant.

Warrant Arrest, Possession of a Controlled Substance and Driving with a Suspended License – Arlington Blvd. and Villa Nueva Dr:
At 0142 hours, an officer conducted a traffic stop and contacted the driver, a 35-year-old male, and a 37-year-old male passenger. The driver was found to be in possession of a controlled substance, paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license, and an outstanding warrant. The passenger was also in possession of a controlled substance. Both individuals were booked at the ECPD and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

April 5th

Warrant – Safeway, 11450 San Pablo Ave:
At 1152 hours, officers responded to Safeway regarding a suspicious person. They contacted a 59-year-old man from San Francisco and determined he had a no-cite Contra Costa County warrant stemming from a 2016 El Cerrito theft case. He was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility.

Identity Theft – 9996 San Pablo Ave
An unknown suspect electronically deposited 7 checks from the El Cerrito Chapter of the NAACP Scholarship Fund into an unknown account. The total of all the checks was $3090.

Robbery – 9825 San Pablo Ave (Peet’s)
At 1835 hours, two males entered the business and grabbed the laptops away from two victims who were inside typing. One of the victims chased the suspects until they split up. One victim was able to recover one of the laptops. During the commission of the crime, one of the victim's fell to the ground.

Domestic Violence and Warrant Arrest – El Cerrito Plaza
At 2000 hours, officers responded to a report of a male and female involved in a physical altercation. Officers arrived on scene and located, a 37-year-old male and a 34-year-old female from El Cerrito. Officers learned the female suspect had assaulted her boyfriend and then vandalized his vehicle. The female was booked for domestic violence and the male was arrested for two outstanding arrest warrants. Both subjects were booked at the ECPD and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

April 6th

Warrant Arrest- S. 52nd St./ Victor Ave:
At 1139 hours, an officer contacted a 26-year-old Richmond man who had four outstanding warrants for his arrest. The man was arrested, booked at the ECPD, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

April 7th

Vandalism - St. John’s 11150 San Pablo Ave:
At 0749 hours, an officer responded to the report of a broken window to the church. The investigation revealed an unknown suspect shattered the door to the gymnasium but did not enter the building.

Commercial Burglary - 10170 San Pablo Ave:
At 0751 hours, an officer responded to the report of a commercial burglary at the Tobacco Outlet. Officers learned from watching video surveillance footage that two suspects attempted to pry open the front door at 0657 hours.

Auto Theft - 7100 Potrero Ave:
An officer reports the theft of a 1999 Honda on April 6th at 2100 hours and April 7th at 1000 hours.

Residential Burglary – 2000 block of Tamalpais Dr:
At 1122 hours, an officer responded to the report of a residential burglary. Sometime overnight, an unidentified suspect cut a lockbox off a house for sale and stole light fixtures.

Residential Burglary- 2200 block of Carquinez Ave:
At 1641 hours, an officer responded to the report of a residential burglary. Sometime during the last week, an unidentified suspect shattered a rear sliding window and made entry while the victim was on vacation. Once inside, the suspect(s) stole jewelry.

April 9th
Shoplifting - 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens):
At 0840 hours, officers were flagged down regarding a theft of consumables. A 44-year-old Richmond man was contacted and identified as the responsible. He was field cited.

April 10th

Resist/Delay Officer; Possess Drug Paraphernalia, Probation Violation – San Pablo Ave / Hill Street:
At 1123 hours, an officer observed a 43-year-old man from Richmond riding a bike northbound on San Pablo Ave against traffic. The officer attempted to contact the man but he fled on his bike. After a brief pursuit, the man was found to be in possession of a glass pipe during a search incident to arrest. He was booked at the ECPD and then transported to Martinez Detention Facility for the new charges and a probation violation.

Theft – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky):
At 1905 hours, an officer reports the arrest of a 19-year-old Richmond man after he entered the business and attempted to leave with bottles of liquor. When he noticed employees were calling the police he left the liquor and fled the store on an employee's bicycle. The suspect was located nearby and placed under citizen's arrest. He was booked and then released with a citation.

Residential Burglary – 2600 block of Tamalpais Ave:
At 1943 hours, an officer reports an unknown suspect entered the residence via an unsecured rear window and conducted a major ransack of the bedrooms. The suspect took jewelry, a Mac Book Air 13, and cash. Time of occurrence was between 0700 hours and 1940 hours on 4/10.

April 11th

Auto Burglary, Vehicle Tampering – 2000 block Key Blvd:
Between April 10th at 2130 hours and April 11th at 0845 hours, an unknown suspect forced his way into the victim’s vehicle and dismantled the steering column and pulled the ignition wires down. The suspect stole the registration, insurance, and rosary beads.

Public Intoxication & Probation Violation – Safeway, 11450 San Pablo Ave:
At 1052 hours, officers responded to an unwanted subject at Safeway and contacted a 27-year-old man from Richmond. The man was in the bathroom drinking beer and was heavily intoxicated. He was on 4 counts of probation in Contra Costa County, including one count for public intoxication. He was arrested and transported directly to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Warrant – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens):
At 1608 hours, an officer investigated a suspicious vehicle and arrested a 42-year-old Richmond man on a no-bail Alameda County warrant. He was booked at the ECPD and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Jordan Ave and Tamalpais Ave:
At 1914 hours, an officer contacted the owner of a 1998 Honda CRV which was reported stolen to ECPD on April 9th. The vehicle suffered some minor stripping; as the radio and battery were taken. The vehicle was released to the owner.

DUI arrest, Probation Violation, Driving with Suspended License- 11319 San Pablo Ave (Chevron):
At 2208 hours, an officer observed a vehicle quickly accelerate, make a U-turn at a red light at the intersection of San Pablo Avenue and Potrero Avenue, and pull into the Chevron parking lot. The officer contacted the driver, a 24-year-old San Pablo man, and determined he was driving under the influence of alcohol. The man was also on probation out of Contra Costa County for DUI and was driving on a suspended license. He was booked then cited out to a friend.

April 12th:

Warrant (X2) – Yolo Ave / Central Ave:
At 1514 hours, an officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested a 38-year-old man from Berkeley for several outstanding arrest warrants. He was booked at the ECPD and then transported to Martinez Detention Facility.

Battery – Safeway 11450 San Pablo Ave:
At 1959 hours, an officer was dispatched to a report of a battery that occurred at Safeway. The victim reported a young adult male slammed her car door while she was putting her child into her vehicle. The suspect then pushed V into her vehicle and left the scene. The victim followed the suspect into Richmond where he was detained by officers. The male, a 19-year-old from Richmond, was arrested and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility.


Warrant, Drug Arrest – San Pablo Ave/Knott Ave:
At 0025 hours, an officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested a 35-year-old El Sobrante man for a misdemeanor warrant and for being in possession of cocaine. He was cited and released.

April 13th

Warrant Arrest – Safeway 11450 San Pablo Ave
At approximately 1158 hours, an officer contacted a 42-year-old transient male in front of the business and found he had a no-bail warrant out of Contra Costa County. The male was booked at the ECPD and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Embezzled Rental Vehicle – Potrero Ave. / S. 53rd Street.
At approximately 1217 hours, an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a U-Haul van. The van was reported as stolen on March 4th after it was rented a month prior. None of the three occupants matched the description of the subject who rented the van. All three were detained, interviewed and released. The van was released to the company.

April 14th

Stolen Vehicle Report – 7300 block of Cutting Blvd.
An unidentified suspect stole the victim’s 2000 Honda Accord and rolled it several hundred feet down the hill. Unable to make off with the victim’s Honda, the suspect stole the victim’s musical instruments and fled.

Auto Burglary – 8300 block of Buckingham Dr.
An unidentified suspect forced entry into a parked car and stole the victim’s Public Address system.

Shoplifting Arrest - Walgreen’s 11565 San Pablo Ave:
At approximately 1413 hours, El Cerrito Police Officers just began a traffic detail in the 11500 block of San Pablo Avenue when Walgreens called to report a theft. A 26-year-old male from Oakland was located at BART and identified as the responsible. He was also found to be in possession of fraudulent credit cards which he later confessed to having used at the EC Plaza Lucky’s. The male was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.

Residential Burglary – 6100 block of Jordan Ave
At 1452 hours, an officer responded to the report of a residential burglary. Sometime during the day on April 3rd, an unidentified suspect broke into a residence and stole misc. property.

Assistance to Outside Agency (BART PD) – El Cerrito Plaza BART
At approximately 1547 hours, El Cerrito Police Officers responded to assist BART PD with the call of five juveniles trying to steal a vehicle in the BART parking lot. Upon arrival, it was determined that a Toyota Camry was stolen and an attempt was made to steal another. An El Cerrito Police Corporal located the five suspects in a parking garage in the 6500 block of Fairmount Ave. They were identified and arrested by BART PD. The stolen Camry was located in the 600 block of Lexington Ave. by an El Cerrito Police Officer.

April 15th

Warrant Arrest – Safeway 11450 San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 0644 hours, officers were dispatched to an unwanted subject at Safeway. A 37-year-old male from Oakland was contacted and had a probation violation warrant out of Alameda County. The male was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Arrest for Grand Theft/Conspiracy and Probation Violation – Walgreen’s 11565 San Pablo Ave.
At approximately 1158 hours, officers responded to a shoplifting that just occurred. El Cerrito Police Officers located the suspects, a 25-year-old male from Oakland and a 28-year-old female from Richmond, who they detained at the bus stop at the Del Norte BART station. The male and female had over $950 of Walgreen’s items concealed on their person. The male and female were both on probation for possession of stolen property. They were identified as the suspect during an infield show-up and placed under citizen’s arrest. They were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Crime Update:

On Monday, April 9th, officers from a neighboring police department arrested a 49-year-old man from Richmond who was wanted by ECPD detectives for burglary. The suspect was interviewed in regards to numerous residential burglaries where staging furniture was stolen. The District Attorney’s Office reviewed the case and filed numerous charges against the suspect. The suspect is currently in-custody at the Martinez Detention Facility where he is being held with a bail of two-hundred thousand dollars. There is still an outstanding ECPD arrest warrant for the suspect’s accomplice.
