Motorcycle Pursuit ends in capture of fleeing suspect
On 04/15/18 at 9:00pm a 2-Officer DUI enforcement unit attempted to stop a motorcycle in the City of Fairfield for a traffic violation. The driver of the motorcycle, later identified as 25 year old Fairfield resident Jamell Griffin, fled from officers and a pursuit was initiated. Griffin failed to stop at stop signs and ran a red light prior to entering westbound I-80. The pursuit was canceled after Griffin reached unsafe speeds and jeopardized the safety of the motoring public, officer’s and himself.
While officers were in the Cordelia area just after the pursuit was terminated they noticed the motorcycle attempting to enter eastbound I-80. A patrol car was parked there and Griffin turned around on the on-ramp to avoid him. The original patrol car who first attempted to stop Griffin located him and a second pursuit was initiated.
Griffin fled northbound on Suisun Valley road past Solano Community College and approaching Rockville Road. Prior to Rockville Road Griffin drove into and ditch and fled on foot into a large overgrown field. With the assistance of Solano Sheriff’s Deputies a quick perimeter was set-up. A citizen from a residence near by notified Fairfield Dispatch that an unknown male matching the suspect's description had just fled from their yard.
CHP Air Ops responded from Napa along with Fairfield K9 Xerro and a search of the field was conducted. Griffin was spotted by the CHP fixed wing and it guided in the K9 search team. Griffin was carrying a backpack and was an unsearched fleeing felon who disobeyed several announcements to give up. Individuals who Due the overgrowth of the field and lack of visibility for the officers, K9 Xerro led the search. K9 Xerro located Griffin trying to conceal himself in the field.
Griffin was taken into custody without further incident thanks to a quick response from patrol, CHP Air Ops, and alert citizens.
