Morning Shooting Results in Late Night Arrest

On April 13th 2018, at about 9:00am, Fairfield Police began receiving calls about a possible shooting in the 4400 block of Central Place in Fairfield. Upon arrival, all involved parties had fled the location. Patrol officers were able to speak with witnesses and locate a crime scene that included bullet strikes into the building. Patrol officers and crime scene investigators processed the scene for evidence and turned the investigation over to Investigation Bureau detectives.

The investigation continued with patrol officers and detectives working together, and ultimately identifying a suspect for the crime. The investigation showed Michael Conard, a 37 year old Fairfield resident committed the shooting. Patrol officers began searching for Conard and located him at a residence in the 2800 block of Rose Ct in Fairfield. Detectives authored a search warrant to search the residence and arrest Conard.

Based on the nature of the crime, the SWAT Team was activated and utilized to serve the search warrant. At approximately 11:30pm the same day, the SWAT Team began executing the search warrant. Conard refused to exit the residence and barricaded inside. SWAT utilized noise/flash diversionary devices and other less lethal tools to persuade Conard to exit the residence. Approximately one hour after starting the search warrant, Conard exited the residence and surrendered to SWAT personnel.

Conard has a lengthy, violent criminal history and is a convicted felon. After further investigation it was determined Conard  had a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his foot as a result of the shooting incident. Upon getting medical clearance, Conard was booked in the county jail for assault with a firearm on a person, shooting into an inhabited dwelling, and multiple weapon violations.

This is an on-going investigation and no other information will be released at this time. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Fairfield Police Department’s Investigation Bureau at 707-428-7600. Media with inquires should contact the Fairfield Police Department PIO at 707-428-7444.
