Fairfield PD Hosts Contingent from the Police Services of Northern Ireland

This week, the Fairfield Police Department hosted four members of the Christian Police Association of Northern Ireland.  These officers were in town following an international conference at Hume Lake.  On Monday, the Northern Ireland contingent gave a presentation to members of the Fairfield Police Department about the history of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) and what policing is like for them now.  Following the presentation, the PSNI Officers took a tour of the FPD Training Facility, had some great dialogue with the SWAT Team about equipment and tactics, toured the dispatch center and the Police Activities League (PAL) Center.
On Wednesday, the PSNI officers returned to Fairfield where they rode along with FPD officers, getting to experience American Policing firsthand.  They were also treated to a tour of the Public Safety Academy.  This was a great opportunity for everyone involved to build camaraderie and goodwill.  The PSNI officers have a unique experience to police in a region with a long history of cultural conflict.  It was great to hear their experience with rebuilding trust between their communities and their police department.
