Night Shift Report - Auto Burglary Arrest

Another win for proactive policing in this edition of #WhileYouWereSleeping

Recently there has been an increase in reports of auto burglaries and thefts from vehicles near Hamilton Marketplace. We have been working hard to educate the public on burglary prevention, but the reports continue to come in. As a result, our Novato Response Team and our Investigations Unit conducted a series of surveillance operations near the Hamilton Marketplace and Courtyard Marriott over the past several weeks. As a result, we arrested 35 year old Karrell Morgan of Vallejo for Auto Burglary, Destruction of Evidence and Evading the Police. Here’s how it all went down.

Last night around 1:00 AM, our officers observed a dark sedan with paper plates enter the parking lot of the Courtyard Marriott. The vehicle was driven by Karrell Morgan. Morgan exited his vehicle and began peering into the windows of vehicles with a flashlight. Morgan then smashed the window of one of the vehicles parked in the lot and removed a laptop computer and briefcase from inside. He then returned to his vehicle and began to leave the area.  A traffic stop was made on the vehicle near McDonald’s on Nave Drive. Morgan did not stop and entered the freeway, driving N/B on Highway 101 at a high rate of speed. Morgan threw the victim’s property out of the vehicle and onto the freeway in an attempt to discard evidence of the burglary. A vehicle description was provided to responding patrol officers. An officer near Hwy 37 and Black Point caught up with the vehicle and stopped it. The driver was placed under arrest for the listed charges and booked at the Marin County Jail.

We will continue to be proactive in combating auto burglaries and theft. We encourage our community members to remain vigilant about protecting your property. We ask that you remove any items of value from your vehicles, store any of your personal property in your trunk and lock your vehicle. Remember….Lock It, Hide It, and Prevent It!
