SMPD Arrest Serial Bank Robber

On Saturday, April 7th, 2018 at about 12:45 p.m., a San Mateo Police Officer was driving through the parking lot of the Jockey Club located at 2495 S. Delaware St., when he saw a gold Cadillac sedan.  The officer recognized the Cadillac as matching the description of a get away vehicle in multiple bank robberies that recently occurred in the City of San Mateo and other Bay Area communities. Our officer called in additional SMPD resources, which included our Crime Reduction Unit to assist with the investigation.  SMPD officers subsequently contacted the Cadillac owner as he walked to his vehicle from the Jockey Club. The Cadillac owner, identified as Gregory Vaughn, was recognized to be the suspect responsible for five bank robberies based on surveillance video and a statement later provided by Vaughn. Three of the robberies occurred in San Mateo, one in San Jose and the other in Campbell. Vaughn was later transported to San Mateo County Jail where he was booked for multiple counts of robbery.
