Windsor PD Deputies safely take armed suicidal man into custody

On Saturday, 4/7/2018, at approximately 1143 hours, Nolan Murphy (25 years old and a Windsor resident), who was extremely intoxicated, called the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch stating that he wanted to commit suicide by COP. Murphy told the dispatcher that he had armed himself with a knife. Murphy was yelling obscenities at the Dispatcher.

Deputies from the Windsor Police Department responded to 9600 block of Montez Court in Windsor to check on Murphy’s welfare. When WPD Deputies arrived on scene they encountered Murphy in the street walking towards them. Murphy was yelling at the Deputies to kill him.  Murphy was holding a large kitchen knife in one hand and a bottle of Whiskey in the other hand. Deputies tried to convince Murphy to drop the knife, but he refused. One Deputy deployed his Taser at Murphy, but missed. The Windsor Police Department Sergeant used a less lethal 40 MM (form bullets) and shot Murphy. The first shot had no effect on Murphy and the Sergeant shot him again. This time Murphy dropped the knife and the bottle of Whiskey. Deputies were able to place Murphy in handcuffs. Murphy was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for a medical clearance and once cleared he will be booked at the Sonoma County Jail for violation of his probation, Felony Resisting Arrest, and a mental health hold.  Murphy was on probation for a vandalism conviction. He also was on pretrial probation for a recent robbery arrest.
