Police ID Saturday Burglary Pattern - Seek Public's Assistance

Police Seek Public's Assistance

South Brunswick Police are asking for the public's assistance in reporting any unusual activity on Saturday evenings. Detectives have identified 5 burglaries to homes over the past month in the Township that appear connected. The burglaries have all taken place during the evening hours on Saturdays. In each case the suspects kick in a front door or pry open a rear window. In one case, a suspect unscrewed motion lighting at the rear of the home prior to breaking in. Once inside the home, the suspects ransack the residence looking for cash and jewelry. In all of the cases the residents were out for the evening.

Detective Sergeant Mike Pellino said, “We are following leads and working with other law enforcement from across the State. We are asking residents to be extra vigilant on Saturdays and not to hesitate to call us for anything unusual. No lead or piece of information is too small for us to follow up.”

The burglaries have taken place on Rocky Hill Road, Marc Drive, Curtis Court, Larkspur Drive, and Pointer Place. Sergeant Pellino added, “The cases are spread out around town, but they all share the same day and time period.”

Anyone who has information or observes unusual activity is asked to call South Brunswick Police at (732) 329-4646.

Police Special Needs Outreach Continues Tonight

South Brunswick Police will be presenting on the Special Need Registry tonight at South Brunswick High School. The new program started last fall, allows officers to immediately have a person with special needs photograph and vital information. Police devised the program after analysis showed 1/3 of missing people in the Township in 2016 had special needs. Chief Raymond Hayducka said, “The program has received a tremendous response and tonight we continue our outreach efforts by meeting with parents and students at the high school.”

Police can provide families and residents with special needs decals to affix to their homes and vehicles if they so desire, to indicate they are in the registry. The presence of a decal on a vehicle will alert the police officer to the possible presence of a special-needs registrant in the vehicle or in the home upon arriving at a scene. The use of the decal is completely voluntarily.

The information requested to register a special needs person includes the registrant's personal identifiers such as their name, address, height, weight, emergency contact information, some details about their special needs and a recent photo. The registrant can also elect to provide additional information about themselves such as medical conditions, places frequented, method of communication, calming methods and triggering conditions.

Anyone with questions about the South Brunswick Special Needs Registry can call 732-329-4000 ext. 7469 or email [email protected].

Curbside Collection

The special brush program will end on Friday, April 6. The brush that is currently curbside will be collected.

Residents missing this curbside collection deadline MUST recycle brush by delivering it to the Township’s brush drop off area behind Sondek Park, Monday through Saturday 8:30AM-3:00PM.

Brush is mandated for recycling by Middlesex County and therefore will not be collected with the garbage.
