Police K9 Needs Assistance!

Larkspur, CA – March 21, 2018. K9 Beau is a Narcotics Detection K9 who is partnered with one of our Central Marin Police Corporals and assigned to the Marin County Major Crimes Task Force. They have been partners – and family – for the past three years. Ten days ago Beau suddenly fell ill with what appeared to be a stroke. After several days of intensive care treatment at UC Davis Veterinary Hospital, he was diagnosed with Granulomatous Meningoencephalitis (GME). GME is an auto-immune disease that has no known cause. It’s causing severe inflammation and pressure in Beau’s brain and if left untreated, he will die. Beau has been making small improvements each day, but the reality is he will never make a full recovery.

K9 Beau is an 11year-old Labrador and Blue Heeler mix. He came to his law enforcement career in an unusual way - as a rescue from an animal shelter. The police canine trainer would visit shelters looking for exceptional four-legged recruits. He tested for their suitability and had a particular test to assess a dog’s scenting abilities. Beau’s results were off the chart! In this past year alone, Beau worked on 70+ drug interdiction cases which resulted in the cumulative seizure of a quarter million dollars in cash and over 500 pounds of marijuana with a projected street value of $500,000.

Understandably, Beau can no longer work as a Narcotics K9 and he was retired by his agency. Beau’s partner has assumed full physical and financial responsibility for Beau and brought him home to live out his retirement days with the family he knows and loves. Beau will need medication and constant care for the rest of his life. A “Go Fund Me” page has been established to help off-set the cost of his current and future medical needs. It’s called the Beau Fund-Me page and can be reached with the following link: www.gofundme.com/beaufund-me. Any excess monies not needed for Beau’s care will be held in a fund for other law enforcement canines who have serious medical needs during their retirement years.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
