At 3:02 p.m. Lakewood Station personnel received a call of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision at the intersection of Downey Avenue and Rosecrans Boulevard in Paramount. Deputies and Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel, Engine #31 responded and found a male juvenile and three female juveniles had been struck by a vehicle and were laying injured on the sidewalk. The four juveniles were transported to a local hospital and their conditions are unknown.
Witnesses stated the vehicle that struck the pedestrians was a truck which had been traveling southbound on Downey Avenue at a high rate of speed. The truck collided with another vehicle, lost control, traveled onto a sidewalk and struck the four pedestrians. The adult driver of the involved vehicle remained on scene and was identified as 19-year old Saul Martinez. There does not appear to be any symptoms of impairment by the driver.
Martinez was arrested and booked on charges of Felony Reckless Driving – 23104 CVC at Lakewood Sheriff’s Station. He has a pending a court date of March 21, 2018, at Compton Superior Court.
