Aggravated Child Abuse Arrest

(Etowah County, Alabama) An Etowah County woman has been arrested in connection to the abuse of a child, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

"Margaret Ann Elchin, 41, of Boaz, was arrested and charged with one count of aggravated child abuse, which is a felony,” investigator Brandi Fuller said.

Elchin allegedly gave the 5 year-old victim a pill that caused him to be unconscious at times with slurred speech. After the child was dropped off at school, faculty members immediately noticed his ill health and called medical personnel. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was treated.

Elchin was booked into the Etowah County Detention Center and later released on a $50,000 surety bond. As a condition of her bond, she is not allowed any unsupervised contact with any child under the age of 18.

Special thanks to the James M. Barrie Center for Children and Etowah County Department of Human Resources for their assistance with the case.
