On March 13, 2018, at 4:42 p.m. Gibson County Central Dispatch received a 911 report of a fight that had just occurred in the 400 block of West Division in Oakland City. Upon arriving officers began an investigation into the incident. After locating both parties statements were taken from both parties where it was revealed that 51 year old Jerry Jones of Oakland City had followed the victim throughout town in an attempt to provoke a fight. Ultimately Mr. Jones physically attacked the victim. Once Mr. Jones fled the scene the victim called 911 and reported the incident. During the investigation Deputy Smith detected the odor of alcohol coming from Mr. Jones and attempted to conduct a DUI investigation however Mr. Jones refused to cooperate in the investigation. Mr. Jones was ultimately taken to the Gibson County Jail where he was charged with Battery, Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (Refusal), and an outstanding Failure to Appear charge. He remains in custody on a $750 bond.

Assisting Deputy Smith in his investigation was Grant Fulkerson of the Oakland City Police Department.

All Criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
