Expect delays near the 100 block of El Camino Real (near our border with Menlo Park) on Wednesday morning beginning at about 10:30 a.m. and potentially lasting until 2:00 p.m. due to a planned student demonstration.
The following information is from the City of Menlo Park:
"Students from several area schools will conduct a march on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, beginning at 10 a.m. to raise awareness about school safety and gun violence.
"Students from Menlo Atherton High School, Menlo School and Sacred Heart School (among others) are expected to join the walkout and march from Atherton through Menlo Park and ending at El Camino Park in Palo Alto. The students plan to use Valparaiso Avenue, University Drive, Oak Grove Avenue and El Camino Real.
"1,500 to 2,000 students may participate in this walkout and march.
"Police will be on hand to assist with the safe and peaceful demonstration. Traffic is expected to be heavily impacted on all of the streets mentioned, especially on El Camino Real from Atherton to Palo Alto. Expect road closures, extended traffic delays and possible detours. Please take alternative routes to avoid congestion."
Additionally, students at many Palo Alto schools will also be participating in the demonstration near their own campuses, but we have no information indicating that there will be any disruption to traffic as a result of those demonstrations. Police are working in close conjunction with the various school administrations to ensure the safety of our students and to protect their ability to exercise their constitutional rights in a safe manner.
