Modesto, CA – Few words were spoken during encounters with a man who searched two north Modesto businesses wearing a San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department uniform shirt.

Last Wednesday, officers were sent to Vintage Massage on Dale Road to investigate a report of a sheriff’s deputy who searched the business. The witness reported that a man walked into the business wearing a uniform shirt, past the counter to several of the rooms where he opened drawers and cabinets. The man then left through the front door without saying a word to employees.

During the investigation, officers learned of a similar incident the day prior at Vintage Massage on McHenry Avenue. The witness at the McHenry location said the man was wearing a jacket over the uniform shirt and when asked if he needed anything, he took his jacket off saying he was a cop. The man then proceeded to search the rooms inside the business before leaving.

Staff at the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department recognized the man, identified as 52-year-old Doyle Swarm, from an encounter in late February. Modesto Police Department detectives served a search warrant at Swarm’s Ceres residence where they located the uniform shirt used during his encounters at the massage businesses. Swarm was arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Jail for two counts of impersonating an officer.
