K9 Jax locates a missing elderly female who was concealed in high brush and unconscious!

DATE / TIME: Monday, March 12, 2018 / 6:06 PM

LOCATION:  Pomona, CA.

CRIME:  Critical Missing Elderly Female.

VICTIM: Elderly Female, 80 yrs old, Pomona Resident.

UNIT:  Patrol Division / K9 unit.

NARRATIVE:
On 03/12/18 at approximately 6:00 PM Pomona Police Officers were dispatched to a residence in the Phillips Ranch area of Pomona where they contacted family members of the victim. The family members stated the victim had wondered away from the residence and her whereabouts was unknown. Due to the victims age the family members were concerned for her health and safety.

Officers began an extensive search in the area and were initially unable to locate the victim. Officer Conley, along with his partner K9 Jax (bloodhound), were requested and responded to the area to assist with the search. Jax was deployed and immediately picked up on a scent. Jax led officers to a hilly area behind Ranch Hills Elementary School. Jax, and the officers, followed the scent and eventually located the victim lying unconscious in the high brush. The victim was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center in serious condition. She was treated by medical staff and was eventually upgraded to stable condition. It was determined the victim had not been a victim of a crime and no foul play is suspected.

Without Jax and his keen sense of smell it is possible the victim would not have been found prior to her medical condition deteriorating to a point where she would not have been able to regain consciousness.

We at the Pomona Police Department commend Officer Conley, K9 Jax, and all the other department personnel involved in the search for the victim. With their dedication to the residents of Pomona a positive outcome was achieved allowing the victim to be treated for her undetermined medical condition and safely reunited with her family.
