SUMMARY:
On Sunday, March 11th, at approximately 8:45 pm, deputies from the Highland Police Department observed a black SUV with paper plates driving westbound on Baseline at Central at a high rate of speed and running red lights. Deputies, with the assistance of Sheriff's Aviation and CHP, pursued the driver, later identified as Christine Cluver, for over 40 minutes on surface streets and highways through the cities of Highland, San Bernardino, Rialto, and Muscoy. At one point, Cluver tried to assault deputies by unsuccessfully ramming several Highland patrol units during the pursuit. The pursuit was terminated when Cluver drove onto the railroad tracks in the area of Cajon Boulevard and Kern Avenue in Muscoy and got stuck. Cluver tried to escape on foot, but was apprehended when she ran into a nearby transient tent. Highland Deputies immediately notified BNSF of the vehicle on the tracks and had all train traffic stopped. The vehicle Cluver was driving was found to be stolen and towed from the tracks. Cluver was arrested, booked, and is being held on $250,000 bail at Sheriff's Central Detention Center. No one was injured during this pursuit.
