Officer Involved Crash - Update

On March 2, 2018 at approximately 10:02 pm, Officer Rudolph was on a traffic post in his marked patrol vehicle on Rt. 322, diverting traffic onto Rt. 50 due to downed wires in the roadway. A 2002 Volkswagon, driven by Isaiah Rasul Muhammad Smith of Whitsett, North Carolina, was traveling west on Rt. 322 and failed to yield to Officer Rudolph’s directions and emergency lights, and crashed into the front of Officer Rudolph’s patrol vehicle. Officer Rudolph was transported to the hospital with serious injuries and Smith was arrested and charged with multiple motor vehicle offenses, including Driving While Intoxicated (additional charges are pending).

Since the crash, Officer Rudolph has been released from the hospital and continues to recover from the injuries he sustained. The Rudolph Family and the Township of Hamilton Police Department thank everyone for the overwhelming support, prayers and get well wishes that have been sent.
