In an on-going effort to make the community aware of crimes of fraud, the Sausalito Police Department would like to advise the public of a new telephone fraud scheme. The scheme involves people receiving a phone call where the caller ID appears to originate from their own phone. When the call is answered, a recording says it is the phone company and that there is a problem with your phone service. The recording asks for you to enter the last four of your Social Security number to confirm your identify. Never enter any personal or identifying information into your phone when you receive a call. If you receive one of these calls simply hang up. Please contact your phone service provider directly on their normal business phone number if you wish to check the status of your account or inquire about possible problems with your phone service.
