11AM Tuesday -  WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 3 AM EST THURSDAY

South Brunswick Police and Office of Emergency Management are monitoring a winter storm expected to impact our Township all day Wednesday. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for our area. The forecast calls for 7 to 10 inches of snow. We anticipate numerous closings and cancellations for activities and events on Wednesday. Based on the forecast there should be limited no essential travel on Wednesday.

We will provide updates throughout the day on local road conditions, closings, power outages and any essential information using Nixle and Twitter (@SoBrunswickPD).

IMPORTANT REMINDERS
Power -
If you experience a power outage during the storm, call PSE&G at 1-800-436-PSEG (7734).

Roads
There is no parking allowed on Township roadways during a snowstorm. This will allow Township plow crews to clear the roadway as soon as possible.

FORECAST -
WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 7 to 10 inches, with localized amounts up to 13 inches, are expected,
especially near and just west of the Interstate 95 corridor and
in the hilly areas of southeastern Pennsylvania and northeastern
New Jersey.

WHERE...Portions of central, northern and northwest New Jersey
and east central and southeast Pennsylvania.

WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to 3 AM EST Thursday.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel will be very difficult to impossible, including during both commutes on Wednesday. Be prepared for significant reductions in visibility. Snow should begin tonight with slushy accumulations by dawn Wednesday. There may be a period where snow mixes with sleet and rain during the day Wednesday, especially right along the Interstate 95 corridor, but will primary fall as a heavy, wet snow with snowfall rates of up to 1 inch per hour. Wind gusts to 35 MPH are possible in northeastern New Jersey. With this being a heavy, wet snow, it is likely that trees and power lines could be brought down from the weight of the accumulating snow, resulting in power outages.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather
conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. If you
must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your
vehicle in case of an emergency.
