Advisory

Powerful coastal storm Thursday night-Friday, heavy rain/strong winds, some power outages/downed trees possible

The Office of Emergency Management advises residents that a long duration storm will impact the region beginning this evening and continuing to late Friday night. Rain should become steady this evening. With rain continuing on Friday, a very strong low pressure develops offshore and is slow to move. Rainfall amounts should range between 1 and 2 inches which could lead to spotty roadway flooding.

Winds will increase significantly Friday with gusts peaking at 50 miles per hour, which could lead to some power outages and downed trees due to saturated ground. To report downed wires or power outages, call PSE&G’s Customer Service line at 1-800-436-PSEG. Please be sure to charge your cell phones and have flashlights available in the event of a power outage.

Another aspect of the storm is the potential for a changeover to snow during Friday afternoon and evening. The best chance for all snow is late Friday afternoon. Very little accumulation is expected and roads will likely remain wet.

Township OEM will provide updates as conditions warrant.
