Advisory

The boil water alert remains in effect within the City of Livonia until further notice.

Sunday would be the earliest possible day that the boil water alert could be lifted.

The Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA), which provides water to the region, has collected water samples and will be conducting two rounds of testing of water samples. The boil water alert will remain in effect until GLWA notifies the City that the alert is lifted and water is safe to drink without boiling.

What is the Current Situation:
GLWA repair crews continue responding to the Schoolcraft and Middle Belt situation and repairs are ongoing on the water main break. Extensive road repairs will be necessary. Eastbound Schoolcraft Road east of Middle Belt remains closed to traffic
and is expected to be closed for several days. Access to the on-ramp for eastbound I-96 is available.

Livonia crews responded Thursday evening to the situation at Schoolcraft and Stark Road and isolated the valve problem at that location, providing support to Livonia Police to set up barricades for road closures. Traffic is now open at the Schoolcraft and Stark roads location.

What Happened:
On Thursday evening, the GLWA experienced a system problem that resulted in a rupture in their large transmission water main on Schoolcraft Road east of MiddleBelt. This large break severely damaged the Schoolcraft Service Drive in that location
and briefly resulted in flooding on the I-96 freeway, which was reopened after the problem was isolated and water delivery was re-routed throughout the community.

This problem also resulted in an issue at Schoolcraft and Stark Road, where a pressure surge through the GLWA main destroyed a Livonia-maintained pressure reducing valve at that location. Additionally, resulting from these issues, three water main breaks occurred overnight Thursday at Livonia-maintained water mains, which
Livonia crews have repaired. Additional water main breaks have occurred Friday that have temporarily interrupted service on isolated streets.
