  On February 21, 2018 at 3:32pm, a laptop was stolen from a café on the 2800 block of Telegraph Avenue.  In this case, three male suspects entered the café and grabbed the laptop from the hands of a female adult patron who was sitting on a couch near the front of the business.  The suspects fled to a getaway car which was waiting on the 2400 block of Stuart Street.  Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to contact the Berkeley Police Department at (510)981-5742.

This case comes closely on the heels of another similarly described crime where four suspects entered a café near the intersection of College Avenue and Bancroft Way where two of the group grabbed computers and fled to a waiting car.  This group was stopped and arrested minutes later by plainclothes officers who had been surveilling the café. 

On February 21, 2018, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged Dajon Daniel 19, of Oakland, Kingikirah Stevenson 23, of Oakland, and Ray Moore 19, of Antioch with robbery.    The juveniles (two are 16 and the third is 17 years old, all Oakland residents) remain in custody at Juvenile Hall.  They face charges including robbery, grand theft, and probation violations.

As always we recommend the following crime prevention tips when working on your electronic devices while in public places:

• Be aware of your surroundings
• Do not leave your valuables unattended (especially electronic devices)
• Consider using a locking device to secure your property to the table
• Back up your work to either an external hard drive (not kept with the computer) or to the cloud
• Purchase tracking software so that you can be reunited with your device if it becomes stolen
• If tracking software came with your device, remember to activate it and safeguard your logon & password
• Make note of your electronic devices’ serial number
• If you see something suspicious, say something immediately (call 9-1-1)
