As you know, recently our nation was rocked by the school shooting in Parkland Florida.  In response to this tragic event, Franklin Township Chief of Police Richard A. Grammar and Superintendent of Schools Dr. John Ravally are announcing the new School Safety Initiative(SSI).  
 
Chief Grammar stated, “Since the events in Florida, we have been in constant communication with Doctor Ravally and his staff.  We are dedicated to providing the students of Franklin Township with a safe environment that is conducive to learning.”  In an effort to enhance security for the students and faculty, additional officers will be deployed among the Township’s various elementary schools.  This is in addition to the School Resource Officers assigned to the Franklin Middle School and Franklin High School.   SSI will not only provide additional security, it will allow the children to see the officers in a positive light on a daily basis.  These relationships are what is needed to foster trust and mutual understanding well into the future. 
 
We continue to work with our partners on the County, State and Federal levels to obtain up to date intelligence and assistance with any evolving issues.  Over the past week the Township’s elected officials, school officials, and police department have been contacted with numerous concerns from residents.  On March 21, 2018 at 7:00 PM in the Franklin Middle School Auditorium, there will be a Community Safety Symposium where residents will have an opportunity to receive answers to their questions and concerns about security within the schools and Township.  
 
The officials within the Township, schools and police department are dedicated to your children.  We ask that you assist us by speaking with your children about their social media accounts.  Posts that are deemed to be threatening in nature could potentially expose your child to criminal implications.  Parents are asked to remain vigilant about what their children are posting on social media.
