The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.

February 17th

0541 Hours: Officer Jackman contacted and arrested a 45-year-old transient male for his outstanding warrant on the 35100 block of Newark Boulevard. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

0811 Hours: Officer’s contacted and arrested a 52-year-old Newark male for possession of drug paraphernalia during a probation search on the 6300 block of Rockrose Drive. The suspect was issued a citation and released at the scene.

0917 Hours: Officer D. Johnson investigated the theft of the wheels off a car on the 37100 block of Cedar Boulevard.

1314 Hours: Officers conducted a walking security check of the homeless encampments in the area of Lake Boulevard and SR-84. A 61-year-old transient male was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia. The suspect was issued a citation and released at the scene.

1348 Hours: Officer D. Johnson contacted and arrested a 55-year-old Newark male for possession of drug paraphernalia during a probation search on the 37800 block of Birch Street. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

1536 Hours: Officers and conducted a walking security check of the homeless encampments in the area of Ardenwood Boulevard at the RR tracks. A 48-year-old transient female was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia. The suspect was issued a citation and released.

1942 Hours: Officer Slavazza observes a vehicle failing to maintain its lane. The subsequent traffic stop results in the arrest of the driver, a 28-year-old Newark male for driving under the influence. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

2323 Hours: Officer Taylor investigated a burglary on the 37100 block of St. Mary Street. Entry was made through an unlocked side garage door. There is no known loss at this time.

0014 Hours: Officer Slavazza contacted and arrested a 42-year-old transient male for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia on the 7200 block of Thornton Avenue. The suspect was booked into the Fremont jail.

February 18th

1442 Hours: Officers Mavrakis and Mapes investigated two separate traffic collisions caused by one vehicle. A 79-year-old Newark female sideswiped a vehicle on Jarvis Avenue near Newark Boulevard and accelerated away. The driver then rear-ended another vehicle and her vehicle came to rest about ¼ mile down the road. Two people were transported to area hospitals for treatment for their injuries.

2029 Hours: Officer Khairy contacted and arrested a 24-year-old Newark male for public intoxication on Lido Boulevard at Jarvis Avenue. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

2243 Hours: Officer Taylor responded to a collision on Willow Street at Cabot Court. Officer Taylor arrested the driver, a 38-year-old San Francisco male for driving under the influence. The suspect was booked into the Fremont Jail.

2339 Hours: Officer Slavazza investigated an auto burglary at Swiss Park, 5911 Mowry Avenue. The loss was a stereo.

0627 Hours: Officer Mapes contacted and arrested a 22-year-old Pleasant Hill female for driving under the influence on Mowry Avenue at Alpenrose Drive. The suspect was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

February 19th

0759 Hours: Officer Palacio investigated a vandalism case at Mission Linen Supply, 37707 Cherry Street.

0904 Hours: Officer Jackman investigated the theft of a Gray 1986 Nissan Pickup with a camper shell (CA license plate# 8M83320) on the 6300 block of Mirabeau Drive.

1207 Hours: Officer Palacio contacted and arrested a 23-year-old Newark male for possession of a concealed dagger on the 6500 block of Portsmouth Avenue. The suspect was issued a citation and released at the scene.

1352 Hours: Officer Johnson investigated a hit and run collision on Cedar Boulevard at Thornton Avenue.

1548 Hours: Officer Johnson investigated an auto burglary on the 39200 block of Cedar Boulevard. Loss was a Honda Generator and construction tools.
