Advisory

Water main repair will impact water usage in City of Northville for next few days

Northville …Water will be shut off on Wednesday, Feb. 21, at midnight for residents of Northville while the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) makes an emergency valve repair on a main line that feeds into the City of Northville’s water system. The repair is expected to take only a few hours. When the water comes back on, a boil water alert will be in effect.

Prior to midnight, residents are advised to fill containers and a tub with water to use during the shut-off. Unless people are drinking water that was reserved prior to the water shut-off or bottled water, they will need to boil water before drinking or cooking with it. Boiling water requires that all water be boiled for one minute at a rolling boil, and cooled before using.

The boil water advisory is expected to be lifted Friday morning, pending water samples passing the test. The City needs to complete two tests, 24-hours apart, to ensure the water is safe to drink.
People with compromised immune systems, infants and some elderly are at increased risk for health issues during this time. Pets should be given reserved water or boiled water to drink as well.

People should not run their dishwasher or washing machine during the boil water advisory. Showers and bathing can be done during the advisory as long as people do not drink water during these activities.
For more information, look at the City’s website, Facebook and twitter accounts.
